Privacy Policy

This policy explains how ChessRetake ("the Service") handles information about its users.

1. Game data

Using the username you enter, your browser fetches your games directly from the public APIs of Chess.com and Lichess. Your games and their analysis are stored only in your browser (IndexedDB and similar storage) and are never sent to our servers. You can delete them at any time with "Delete all data".

If you have an account with the Premium plan, your training progress (which puzzles and positions you solved, your review schedule, your streak and the username used for auto import) is also saved with your account so you can continue on other devices. Your games themselves are not uploaded. "Delete all data" also deletes this saved progress.

If you turn on "Show the shortest win in Endgames" in Settings, your browser sends the current endgame position (only the piece placement, nothing about you) to the free Lichess tablebase service (tablebase.lichess.ovh) to look up the exact result.

2. Accounts

Creating an account is optional. If you create one, we store your email address, a securely hashed password, and your board, piece and sound settings. Custom background images are saved only in your own browser on each device and are never uploaded to our servers. We use this information only to sign you in, keep your settings and Premium plan on every device, and contact you about your account. You can ask us to delete your account at any time using the contact details below.

3. Payment information

Premium subscriptions are processed by Stripe, Inc. Your card number and other payment details never pass through or are stored on our servers. To check your subscription status, we store your Stripe subscription and customer IDs with your account, and a restore code (a signed Stripe subscription ID) in your browser.

4. Advertising

The Service uses Google AdSense, a third-party advertising service. Google and other third-party vendors use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ad Settings. For details, see how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
